The issue of trust and blogs is both complex and intriguing. Each individual blog that we encounter is a new community or unknown space. How are we supposed to begin trusting blogs? Are we just supposed to take them at their word or take everything with a grain of salt? It seems that there are multiple answers to each of these questions. First, if you trust the source of the blog for example the NYTimes or MSN sponsored blogs it seems reasonable to trust some of what they say and count on their information as being researched and factual. What about the commenters though? Can you believe what they have to say with any degree of certainty? That again seems to be a question that is best answered as it depends and go with your instinct. Scooblog’s author is rather skeptical of blogs for a number of reasons including; SPAM, credible sources, identity, anonymous cowards, and reputation. This post is interesting and worth a look from Josh Ledgard. Davefleet.com also provides an answer to this question. He believes that blogs are tools like every other tool used by corporations. I am inclined to be skeptical of blogs but it seems for those wary bloggers out there that they should stay in their comfort zone and stay gaureded until they assess a new blog.
